Hello Me and my brother attended Whinburn around the same time as you .My brother Dean Hannon is one of the lads in the photo of the school trip .My names Edward. We visited Whinburn a couple of years back and it was in a terrible state ,Not at all the beautiful place it once was when we lived there. It had been taken over by a millionaire who was said at the time to be restoring it back .Me and my partner knocked on the door to ask if we could have a look round only to be told to get off the property .we were treated like criminals .All we wanted to do was look and remember the old memories but no.How can these people come along and take our heritage .MONEY speaks volume .Im surprised the people of Keighley Have let this happen and been blinded .Whinburn will always have a special place in my heart with the memories and times of what was once a wonderful place .If anybody else reads this blog and have memories .Please add your thoughts .Regards Edward
Hello Edward, my name is Nasier. I also attended whinburn between 1974 - 1979.
I am deeply saddened to hear such news of Whinburn, especially about how you were treated. How terrible rude and cold of them and I totally understand your reasons for wanting to visit.
Indeed, those years certainly were some of the best years of my life. What a beautiful place Whinburn was back then, surrounded by the most beautiful trees, gardens, various flowers and ponds.
Sometimes, my senses are graced by a beautiful smell in the air which instantly projects me back in time to a very specific moment allowing me to once again, experience euphoria layered with a truly beautiful & unmistakable scent of the air captured in time that my soul so pleasurably recognises... only too well :)
Aaaah... Fond memories :)
Please do get intouch if you remember me. It would be a pleasure to meet. In the meantime,
I remember you and Dean well Edward, my name's Joanne and I am the girl facing you brother on the trip photo, I'm so glad to know he's doing okay. I do hope you or he messaged me back one day. Took me forever to see these comments as I moved and all-sorts and forgot the passwords etc
Hi I went to Whinburn for quite a number of years my name is Nina French I remember you Nasier and I’m in contact with my best friend Lorraine Thurman I tried to go once but got to emotional before I got up the drive If it hadn’t been for Whinburn my health would have got worse and I don’t think I would have been here today I have so many good memories from my life there and all my friends
Whinburn too saved my life. I honestly believe if I hadn't gone there my health would of got worse. I have amazing memories of being there. We were not students we were and still are family. It breaks my heart to see Whinburn as she is now, I tried again to visit but couldn't as they wouldn't allow me access, maybe if we all tried to meet and see if power in numbers works. Sadly at lot of the children I attended with have either died or we lost touch. I only see one of the lads from there regularly as we live close to each other and often promise of either of us wins the lottery we would buy Whinburn. It's god such a cherished place in my heart, from burning my hand on the rope bannister ropes to sports day with Anne Sheard by my side. If anybody actually managed to get access for a visit there let me know as I will gladly come along. I have written to my local MP about Whinburn to ask for permission to go and also ask what plans there is for restoration, or selling etc but to no avail.
Also I am the blog creator it’s just been so long I cannot access the account to add more information. I may have to create another blog and transfer all this onto there. I will post the new blog details on this one as a comment when I manage to set one up as I have lots of photos from whinburn I’d like to share. Also I am going to speak to my mum and try out names to all the kids in the photos. I do remember some but not all. If anyone can name any of them please do, I know there is Joanne (Me), David Knowles, Christopher Bennett, Dean Hannon , Anne Sheard, Yvonne Nichols, and Michael Collis. I do believe the photo already posted was our trip to London.
I am origigally from Keighley in West Yorkshire. I now live in Bradford, I am mum to a daughter aged 14 and a son aged 7. I have too many pets to list. And I love Blackburn Rovers FC
